Education City Hostel (Edu Citi-Tel)
Programme Summary :
The Education City Hostel (Edu Citi-Tel) Programme is a new model formulated and implemented by NCIA in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The programme is to provide deserving students with the opportunity to nurture and realize their potentials. This is done through the establishment of integrated hostels in selected cities for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from low-income families, particularly those in rural areas. These students are provided boarding at the hostels and are enrolled in the better school in the area, thus placing them in an environment conducive to learning and self-development.
Currently NCIA has established three Edu Citi-Tel in three different locations- Taiping, Perak; Sungai Petani, Kedah; and Arau, Perlis. Due to positive feedback, the Ministry of Education will be replicating the Edu Citi-Tel programme under the 1Malaysia Hostel brand in the Tenth Malaysia Plan Period.
